WHAT ARE YOUR REASONS TO RECOVER?

TOP TIP No 6: WHAT ARE YOUR POWERFUL REASONS TO RECOVER FROM BULIMIA?

For many its not be easy to figure out what will motivate them to recover from bulimia. When they don't find an answer, well, the easiest route to take is the familiar one, so the behavior has continued.

It’s crucial to understand why you want to recover, and this compelling reason is usually something more important to you than your bulimia.

With my clients, there are usually three main reasons why they want to make that decision and start with their recovery process.

  • To follow a career or passion

Living with bulimia can absorb most of your thinking, so there isn’t much time left for anything else, especially building your career or your own company. But once my clients have realized this is their life's goal, they have a strong reason to begin to step onto their recovery path.

  • Relationships

It’s challenging to be in a long-term relationship when you already have a relationship with bulimia! It zaps all your energy. Often, that strong desire to be in a secure relationship and have children becomes much more compelling than bulimia.

  • Fun, Fun, Fun

Your bulimia has been standing in the way of you having any fun, which we all love to do at some level, whether that’s enjoying the outdoors, reading, or traveling. What would it be for you?

You may have a hidden reason why you can't break free from bulimia. But your reason to choose recovery is lurking inside you!

Are you ready…?

Suppose you’re ready to begin on your recovery path, grab your notebook, ask yourself and answer this question, then make your list:

"What would life look like if I didn't have bulimia?"

It could be learning to skydive or taking a course you have a passion for connected with a career, maybe?

From your answers, see if you can identify the reasons why you may want to change.

Understand why you want to stop this behavior. Then, once you’re aware of this, you can clearly see what you’re willing to do to stop your bulimia.
