“THE INSTANT TRIGGER CHANGE” TECHNIQUE

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR TRIGGERS INSTANTLY WITH

“THE INSTANT TRIGGER CHANGE” TECHNIQUE

Here are the steps to show you how you can learn to change your triggers instantly with this NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming) technique.

Oh, yes, this is where it gets inspiring.

So, find a quiet place and sit down: now, I want you to take each trigger you have identified, and for each trigger, follow the instructions below.

Read through all the steps, so you know where you’re going with this.

1.  Think about your first trigger that sends you down into your negative pattern of bingeing and purging. It could be an image of you slumped on your bed feeling worthless and lonely, or a thought similar to “My jeans are too damn tight this morning.”

2.  Imagine a movie starting from this point and immediately white it out, make the movie screen completely blank, white.

3.  Replace the image immediately with an image or a movie of yourself engaging in a new positive behavior, looking happy, and being free from your bulimia. This could be an image or movie of you walking in a park or on a beach, feeling healthier and more positive about yourself. It will allow you to attach the trigger to the thought of you being free from the pattern.

4.  Repeat Steps 1 - 3, a few times on the first trigger and notice yourself seeing differently about that trigger, bingeing and purging.

5.  Repeat Steps 1 – 4, with the next trigger you have identified, then continue working through your list.

This is a fantastic tool to break your pattern between the triggers and the pattern of bingeing and purging. So, go ahead and give it a try; it’s so simple yet incredibly powerful (Bandler, 2010).
